COMANDO G LAS UMBRIAS 2016

"The breathtaking 2016 Las Umbrías is all about finesse and subtleness. The color is very pale, it looks almost like a rosé. Everything is delicate, the aromas are reticent at first, with flinty/reductive characteristics, lots of dried rose petals, juicy pomegranate and watermelon on the palate with incredibly fine-grained tannins, faintly chalky and somehow salty on the finish, which makes it extremely tasty. 1,722 bottles of this heavenly nectar were filled in February 2018. Grab one if you can!"

Comando G has produced their finest wines in 2016. It's really a killer vintage, and what's amazing is that it combined quality with QUANTITY! The wines are better than ever across the board, with incredible freshness, precision and detail. There are a couple of new reds, one from the Tamboril vineyard where, until now, they have produced their only white, and from another plot nearby the Rumbo al Norte vineyard called La Breña.

Las Umbrias is a single vineyard wine from primarily granite soils that shows the most delicate and floral character of any of the parcel wines of Comando G. Like its siblings it is remarkably pale in color but looks are deceiving as the aromas and subtle red fruit flavors are deftly balanced by fine tannin and a mineral acidity. There are small patched of clay in the otherwise granitic sandy soil of Las Umbrias, perhaps that’s what give the wine added poise as the winemaking is the same here as with the other wines: hand harvested, native fermentation, long maceration and aging in 500 liter barrels or 1.500 liter foudre for 12 months.

  • Drink: 2019 - 2027
  • Production: 1.722 bottles and 50 magnums
  • Treatment: 12 months in one 1.500-liter foudre of French oak
  • Remarks: COMANDO G LAS UMBRIAS 2016: extremely tasty, heavenly nectar... GRAB ONE IF YOU CAN!
