CLIO 2010 | BODEGAS EL NIDO | JUMILLA

"Even better than the smoking 2009, the 2010 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio is an over the top, decadent, and voluptuous effort that stays gorgeously drinkable and light on the palate. A blend of 70% Monastrell (aka Mourvèdre) and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 24 months in new French and American oak, it offers up a blockbuster styled bouquet of smoky black raspberry, crème de cassis, coffee, chocolate, and spice that flows to a extremely rich, full-bodied palate that has layers of sweet fruit, an unctuous texture, and chewy, yet velvety tannin that lends focus on the finish. Despite all of the size and richness here, it never seems heavy or cumbersome, and is easy to drink. Make no mistake, this is a big, rich wine that shows sweet fruit and plenty of oak; it will not be for everyone. Nevertheless, it is beautifully made and a joy to drink. Superb now with a decant (and I see no reason to delay gratification), it will drink well for at least a decade, most likely much longer. Drink: 2013-2023+."

"The Bodegas El Nido 'Clio' is highly sought after by collectors year after year and there is no reason to indicate things will be any different with the 2010 release. This is a massive wine with a generous mouthful of densely packed jammy black fruits, blackberries, creme de cassis, exotic spices, pepper, dark chocolate, espresso, graphite, hints of lavender and well-integrated toasted oak. This is all backed by a rich full body with a plush texture and polished tannins. The spice-tinged finish is long and mouth-coating. This monster of a wine really fleshes out nicely with a few hours of air and the 15.5% alcohol becomes hardly noticeable. It will be even better in a few years if you can resist. Drink: 2014-2024."

"Opaque ruby. Ripe, expressive scents of black raspberry, cassis, dark chocolate, vanilla and potpourri. Fat, full and concentrated, offering intense black and blue fruit preserve flavors and notes of licorice and mocha. Finishes spicy and very long, with smooth, sweet tannins and slow-building smokiness. (70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon; aged for 24 months in new French and American oak.)"

"Plush and polished, this big red delivers cassis, licorice, espresso and sanguine flavors, with firm, well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. A savory style, showing balance and power. Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2020. 2,000 cases made."
